It is strange that this problem .... one installed two weeks ago. Adverse weather conditions (humidity), a ceiling fan is good for all environments, and can not be mounted above the roof or deck. The problem is that there is a manufacturer that offers a waterproof box that is rated for the weight of the ceiling fan. (NEC requires a coffin to) hold a fan, I had to separate the fan bracket and a compression fitting to be used on the top bar ventilation (which is 3 / 4 "rigid conduit) and a small condulet (box) for that. I did with 4 Super Stores in Dallas and is also known as the manufacturer of the fan and had never heard of a painting, weathering and NEC list need to get in a position to a ceiling fan. As an individual, you can probably get around this, and not have a problem. I am an entrepreneur and have exactly the go code. I hope this helps and good luck ....
